Southwest Series - Original Paintings and Giclée Prints
My Southwest Series reflects my interest in pattern, texture and shallow space. I started this series many years ago, but I continue to add pieces to the collection because I still like the challenge of reducing what I see in the desert southwest to stylized shapes, arbitrary color and interesting patterns.
The original watercolors utilized my hand-drawn and cut stencils to create patterns and shapes, with paint spattered over the stencils. It is a way to glaze or layer paint without using a paintbrush, which also adds an illusion of sand-like texture to the paper surface. My newest pieces in the series may be either watercolor or digitally created. I'm finding I can create textures on the computer that I can't in watercolor, and am enjoying being able to revisit earlier watercolors in this series and reinvent them digitally. Some of the digital paintings are unique (one only) and others are limited edition (no more than ten prints). These digital paintings come with a certificate of authenticity.
