Digital Archiving of your Precious Memories and Memorabilia

Below are some samples of photos that have been restored. The before and after images will give you some idea of how much it will cost for photo restoration depending on the damage to your photo. A firm price can only be given after I have seen your original photo.

The original photo is frequently in an old cardboard frame, sometimes with tape attached to either or both the frame and photo. This photo had some badly washed out areas as well where there was not enough information to restore.

Some cropping, and adjustment to the value contrast helped this photo immensely. The client didn't want to have any cleanup work done, so this photo is still spotted.

This is basic restoration. Cost: $15

These were individual baby photos, about 1-1/2" square, which had been pasted on a piece of black cardboard. A mat with multiple oval openings had been cut to fit over the photos, and over the years, the mat had discolored the photos. You can see evidence of the ovals on the individual photos below, as well as scratches and other discolored spots.

For restoration purposes, I scanned each photo separately, restored it as needed, and then "squared up" each photo. Finally I put them all on a single sheet, evenly spaced, so that for framing, just a single outside mat would be needed if a mat was used at all. Click the first photo to see it in detail. This is moderate restoration: Cost for each image: $37.50. Total cost for all 5 images was $187.50

The before photo had been hand-colored. It had spots and other damage typical of an old photo.
And, it was in an old cardboard oval photo frame
with an embossed edge.

The after version was given a sepia tone to
lend it a richer feel, and made rectangular to provide
the client with more framing options.

This is MAJOR restoration. Cost: $125

Typical of an old slide that has been exposed to heat, this before image has an overall red cast. Otherwise, though, it was fine, with good contrast and detail.

In the after version, the color has been corrected and restored to a natural look.

This is BASIC restoration. Cost: $15

The spot on dress and the mottled look on her arm are typical of problems found on old photos.

These defects have to be individually corrected, without losing the texture of the original surface.

Customer received this image back from a "professional" photo retoucher; it's just "OK".

The photo is too blurry, and the bench legs almost disappear, making it seem to "float" unsupported in space.

Their "sepia" tone is also a little too washed out in my opinion, and they lost the sparkle of the tiny crystal beads that embellish the dress.

Customer liked the hand-colored look, but didn't like the original background, and wanted the bench "toned down".

This is my restoration of this photo. Note that the white dress now actually looks white, not yellow.

This is MAJOR restoration. Cost: $180
